Organization for Diaspora Initiatives (ODI) is working to understand the status and role of diasporic communities, trans nationalism and international migration across the globe– both in domestic and international context. It maps the emerging roles of geo-politics, international regimes and operations of different state and non- state actors on Diasporic communities as a resource or as a national security threat- both in the international civil society space as well as in the host and the home countries. ODI interacts and understands various Diasporic communities who feel disempowered under a water tight state based international system and security architecture. ODI attempts to understand Diasporas as a socio-economic migrant community and a non-state actor for home and host countries by comparing and contrasting their experiences in global geopolitics and security imperatives. In this comparative framework, Indian Diasporas is a prime focus of study, in historical, contemporary and developmental perspectives. Head office of ODI is located in New Delhi, India. It is an apolitical and academic entity composed of social scientists and intellectuals. It has academic publications covering, Diaspora as such and for the operating dynamics of geo-politics and security framework. To broadly cover these aspects it has a quarterly refereed academic research journal Diasporas Studies published by Brill, Netherlands and two international peer reviewed academic journals - Review of Global Studies (RGS) and Comprehensive Security Studies (CSS), each published thrice a year by Manohar Publishers, New Delhi. It organizes and participates in conferences, seminars and other interactive activities of Indian and other Diasporas. It is actively engaged in researching and publishing books, journal and occasional papers on Indian and other Diasporas in the context of development, globalisation and its geo-politics and security concerns for home and host countries.. It takes up comparative research projects on different aspects of Diasporas, including on diaspora policies of different countries, utilization of Diasporas as resource by the host countries, the role of Diasporas in development and nation building and the impacts of existing geopolitics and security dynamics on diasporic networks, organisations and movements.
